| Introduction |
|
Somewhere is an unofficial conversion for Grand Theft Auto. It consists of a full level, 30+ new cars and all new missions as well as other front end graphical changes.
The project is currently under development, however unlike most projects under development, this one is about to be released. It was created by myself, Simon "Azz" Marshall, with help from others (including but not limited to) Nick "Stilton" Jones and JH4C/Weasel.

Hi. Sorry about the delay in releasing a DOS fix. Trouble is since I installed WinXP I can no longer run GTA Dos, not that it ran very well anyway.
I'm looking at buying an old computer this week, so hopefully I'll get GTA running on that and be able to fix up a dos patch asap.

| FXT Problem Posted 10:08 - 14/4/2002 by Azz |
Quick bug report for you. If you're getting the following error when trying to start GTA :
"Error 85.96 Text identifier [002area018] not found in the language file"
and you're sure you've installed the english.fxt file, make sure you turn off the "garypenn" cheat. This makes the game read from the special.fxt file rather than the standard english.fxt (in game is just increases the amount of swearing, but has no effect in Somewhere).
Turn it off by entering your name as "iamnotgarypenn" (and if that doesn't work just rename the Somewhere english.fxt to special.fxt :-) ).
Ta to Adios and Dan for pointing this out.

Hi. A big thanks to all those who have downloaded the mod so far, overall a pretty good response.
Unfortunately there are a few unresolved issues (or issues I hoped I'd resolved but actually didn't, grr) which will be addressed asap. With a bit of luck I'll be able to release a patch tomorrow to take out the main errors (ie those that have been reported more than once). Some of them down to my lack of mission.ini experience, some down to GTA not doing things like it should and some down to me cocking up my programming despite allegedly being good at it. d'oh. But all fixable I think. Except for the floating Durango in Little Venice. I have no idea why it does that or how to resolve it. weird.
If you have any bugs please either email me (azz@gouranga.com) or pop along to the gouranga.com forums and join the Somewhere thread in the GTAzz Board.
Hope you're enjoying the mod, and if anyone gets the Problem Solver bonus could they let me know, I never managed to test it properly lol

| Patch 01 :-) Posted 16:20 - 8/4/2002 by Azz |
Oops. Ahem, ok so I forgot to remove a bit of code that I'd added to let me test things.
If you haven't downloaded any files yet then just grab the two from the Downloads page as they've been updated. If you've already downloaded the files could you please grab this file as it contains just the mission.ini and the cmp file you need to replace.
Sorry about that. Told you I never liked deadlines :-)

Well it's done. Ok it's not quite, but it's pretty damned close.
At the moment there's only the Windows GTA version available. I'll debug a dos version of the mission script asap, but not tonight (about five hours of debugging has killed me).
So I think we're good to release the thing. Which is nice.
You can get it via the Downloads page right now. Please let me know what you think, and please read the readme. There are lots of people who deserve credit for the hands they've had in Somewhere so do them a favour and cast your eye over their names. (oh and the readme in the main files pack is more current than the style file one.. it's a big file to reupload on 56k, sorry).
Hope you like it. Or at least hope you download it and let me know why you don't like it, heh. I'm going to go collapse now.
*phew*
